What is Topical Spironolactone?
Topical Spironolactone is a topical alternative to Propecia that doesnt come with the involved risk of side affects. Its a topically applied lotion or cream that works as an incredibly potent "androgen blocker". Whereas Propecia inhibits the creation of DHT, Topical Spironolactone also blocks DHT from binding to receptors and damaging your follicles. Using both Propecia and Topical Spiro are a brilliant and intelligent multi-faceted way to completely protect your hair from further deterioration.Propecia is a "DHT inhibitor" and can take upwards of one to two years to show results. Topical Spironolactone is the same. This is because they are stopping any further hair loss which is enabling your hair to restore itself. This may take many hair cycles and will require some form of patience.
Certain areas of the scalp are genetically imprinted to become sensitive to DHT. Propecie plays the part in blocking out DHT, not allowing it to form at all. Topical Spiro Blocks any remaining DHT that propecia has not eliminated from attaching itself to the follicle roots of your hair. So with the use of propecia you can maintain a two pronged assault on hair loss with Propecia stopping DHT forming and Topical Spiro stopping DHT from attacking your hair. Even on its own Topical Spiro is a powerful part of the fight against baldness.
Who is Topical Spironolactone For?
The rule goes like this: if you're happy to keep the hair you have today, and possibly thicken up just a bit after a couple years, then Topical Spironolactone is a good solution. Just like Propecia, these treatments are extremely good at what they do, but they require patience. They don't result in a big bushy head of hair in 3 months. They are the patient man's intelligent method of attack on DHT. And they will do more for you over the long term than any short term, fly by night hair growth stimulant can. They work to stop further loss, and help you stay at your current baseline without losing new ground. You can always combine Spiro with Propecia, and Rogaine and even Toppik and Couvre. Its totally up to you.
How do you apply Topical Spironolactone?
This treatment should be applied to the areas of your scalp which still have hair, but may be thinning. Applying it to bald, slick scalp will not likely help, as those areas have progressed too far to be salvageable. Simply dab a small amount onto your fingertip and smear it up a "part" in your hair. You can also simply swirl it around at the base of the hair. Use a sparing amount and it should not affect your hair styling at all. The goal is to get a very thin layer onto the affected areas of your skin. Over the next couple hours, it will absorb and spread at least an inch in every direction. You do not need to use a lot.
